TGIF - Some Things to Think About

As the week comes to a close, there are a few things that would stick out in your mind.  Now is a good time to give them some thought.

1.  Did I do my very best in all the circumstances that I had an opportunity to?

2.  Did I make my customers feel that they are special and give the quality of service I’d give if that was the only customer I had?  Cause as a virtual assistant, the best temtimonial is the one from a deeply satisfied customer or client.

3.  Did I use my down time to improve the quality of service I offer?

4.  Am I satisfied with my work ethics?

5.  Do I love what I do, because if you don’t, the answer to all the above will be no.

As always, have a great weekend-time is precious, spend it wisely.

Are You Virtually Assisting

What does it mean to be a virtual assistant.  To assist virtually or to virtually assist.  There is a difference.  Do you see it?  You see to assist virtually is to intend to help while to virtually assist is to purposefully help.

So now that we have that clear, we can all ask ourselves, what are we actually doing?  Sitting on the fence and always saying we are going to, or jumping into the field with our plough in hand?

As the week comes to a glorious close, let’s spend some time scrutinizing the way we work and even why we work.  Always remembering that while intent is good, actions are GREAT.

As always, have a delightful weekend.

TGIF - A Couple Things I Can Only Now Laugh About

I just want to share with you tow things that I can now laugh at.

My seven year old son made reference to something from the Bible that set me right in my place.  He was pulling a car on a length of elastic around the house when he knocked something out of place.  Can’t remember what he knocked down.  But because I warned him a few times before about it, it got me upset.  So I chided him about it asking him if he didn’t know he knocked something over.  He responded by sighing and then in a matter of fact tone let me know that I cannot judge him for what he didn’t know because God does not judge us for what we don’t know.  Well what could I say.

I decided to wash my car so I hooked up the hose and vigorously set out doing it. With the entire car covered with suds, I hustled to wash it down only to realize there was no water.  Annoyed and desperately trying to figure out what to do, I felt the only thing I can do is fill up a bucket from the back and get the soap suds off. Then it hit me, why not just hook up the same hose to the pipe that I’m going to fill up the bucket from so you wouldn’t have to bring around several buckets of water.  Our emotions sometimes really blinds us.

No matter how hectic your week was, because sometimes as a virtual assistant or any small business owner for that matter, things can really bear down on us.  But I’m sure, even if we did not laugh when it happened, we can still laugh at it now because TGIF.

TGIF And For The Person You Are

Sometimes we meet people and their personality is so heart-warming, you eagerly make friends with them or if that’s not possible, you always say hello to them every time you meet them.  But the question this evening is; are you the kind of person that those who come in contact with you can say that you are really heart-warming?

For those of us with beautiful personalities, I say kudos to you. I wish there were more like you.  But for those who are not, believe me, its time to develop a great personality.

If you are a business owner, having clients and interacting with them, a great personality goes a long way.  Even to get clients.  For example a virtual assistant should develop a personality that is  winsome.

So as the weekend starts and the world celebrates the worth of a mother, give yourself a gift too.  Celebrate you.  The person you are.  And if you think the person you are is not worth celebrating, still give yourself a gift; the gift of self- improvement.

TGIF / Be Alert

As the weekend comes around again, there are some things that we should give some attention to.

1. Be alert to taking time for granted. Remember its always later than you think and you never have as much time as you believe.

2. Be alert to making the same mistakes all the time. It signals a lack of growth and personal initiative.

3. Be alert to not giving priority to those things that are important and cannot be replaced.

4. Be alert to giving sub-standard quality of work. There is a large market where high quality can be obtained.

5. Be alert to selling yourself short. As a virtual assistant, always remember that you can always do better than you are presently doing.

So as the weekend comes in, allow that awareness of always being alert, direct your steps.

Have a great weekend.

TGIF Aren’t All The Days The Same?

Well today is Friday and as usual, everyone is delighted.  But for me, the day is no different from any other.  Being sick for the past four days, its hard to see any joy in the arrival of Friday.

But wait a minute.  Today I can do some of the things that the last few days did not allow me to.  As I peer through the window of my son’s bedroom, I can see the lovely trees swaying in the breeze, the sunshine is out, though to some it might be shining without mercy, the birds chirping, and so many things we often take for granted.

As any small business owner will agree, sometimes we are so deeply buried in making a success of our business, that the everyday things we ignore, take for granted until one day we might wake up to find they are no longer there.

Let the weekend be a happy time, a time to reflect and bound.  The life of a virtual assistant is one of constant improvement to meet the growing demands of today’s technology.  But don’t let that drive snuff out the simple beautiful things in our lives.  I’m glad I can write this today.  Aren’t you glad you read it?

Until next time, have a fab weekend.

TGIF: Another Chance To Write Your Story

A great story is an excellent way to get people’s attention. From kids to adults, we all love a great story. So those writing them must be willing to give attention to that fact and be committed to giving the time and the effort to ensure it satisfies the taste of those who have the appetite for it.

Now you might ask what does this have to do with me a small business owner. Well it has in it a principle that is applicable to all business ventures. Give attention to the market condition, and make the necessary changes or adjustments to keep customers loving what you offer. And as Friday drifts away amid the laughter and fun of knowing the weekend is here, don’t give all of this pleasant time to just one thing; fun and laughter, but stick in somewhere your plan to ensure that your story, whether its “client building”, “outsourcing“, “virtually assisting” or “small business marketing”, satisfies the appetite for which they were intended.

Have a super weekend.

TGIF: But What Do I Do With Saturday And Sunday

The weekend is upon us again, never too fast. But what do we do with these two very precious days? Here are 5 things I’d like to suggest. I find them quite rejuvenating.

1. Spend quality time with precious family. Many times our busy lives rob us of spending quality time with our loved ones. Don’t let the robbery go on for the entire week.

2. Pamper yourself. Sometimes when we talk about pampering ourselves, we think it has to be something extravagant. No it doesn’t. Clip and polish you nails, have your hair steamed or styled or just plain shampooed. Just do something that treats you.

3. Spend some more time with God. The Superior One who protected and sustained you wants to spend some time with you and you with Him.

4. Evaluate the past week’s activities and don’t be afraid to applaud your self or criticize yourself. Its between you and your business.

5. Develop plans to get closer to your goals, or if your are already at your “goal” spot, make plans to stay there.

So do enjoy your weekend, and let me know if those five things worked for you.

Merlene,

Five Star Executives.

TGIF So You Can Make The World Your Oyster

Thank God Its Friday; but could we change that TGIF acronym to something different? How about Take Great Ideas Further. Oh yes, I like that one. Great ideas always get our juices going. But don’t we want more than just our juices going. I would think we want to bear fruit, lots of it.

I am a sucker for fruits. I feel every day I simply must have at least one. But I was thinking, wouldn’t it be great if our corporate lives could have people wanting more of us? I think that would translate into client building, business expansion and greater profitablilty, which will in turn be converted to higher levels of customer service.

Now where am I going with all this. Although each and every day we are all guaranteed 24 hours, not 15 for some, 12 for others, but we all get 24. The playing field is level. But some of us still feel under-achieved at the end of that guaranteed period. Well I have concluded that its what you choose to do with those hours. $15 tasks or $95 and approaching $100 tasks.

But to do a task well, as it is said, a workman is as good as his tools. Okay, so I’m getting to the point now. In order to succeed in business, large or small business, the right tool must be used, period. I have found that there are a number of right tool, among them is the virtual assistant. Someone who can make you feel like you’ve received a 28 hour or 30 hour day, because she takes all those $15, $20 or even $10 tasks and allows you to focus on the $95 ones. So you are at the $85 tasks, but the extra time is giving you the ability to gain ground and so become highly competitive. So you open your eyes and you think to yourself, the world has indeed become my ouster.

But remember, Taking Great Ideas Further is about not just listening to the idea, but taking it and running with it. Today your idea to run with is the virtual assistant.

Have a fabulous weekend.
